Mark Kelvin Horton

Mark Kelvin Horton was born and raised in rural North Carolina. After graduating from East Carolina School of Art in 1983, he moved to New York City to begin an 18-year career in advertising and design. In that time he carried the dream of becoming a painter, fueled by visits to the city's museums and galleries. He sketched, drew and painted whenever he had the opportunity. In 2001 he decided to devote himself to painting full-time, and moved to Charleston, South Carolina. Fascinated with the effects of light and weather on the landscape, he portrays nature in a way that reflects his own sensibilities while capturing the spirit of place.
