Scott Moore
Scott Moore

Reflected in the art of Scott Moore are his interests in history and nature, as well as his lifelong devotion to colorful painting. Moore grew up outside of Washington, D.C., with a fashion illustrator mother and an exhibit designer father. He began drawing early on, quickly realizing a love for art.
Growing up in Maryland, Moore spent his childhood exploring the acres of woods surrounding his home. He was inspired by the rural setting, as well as stories of WWII and the Civil War recited by his father and grandfather, respectively. In the 1960s, his family moved to the Maine coast. In high school, Moore traveled on both the debate and football teams. He attended the Maine College of Art (then the Portland School of Art) where many students focused on Abstract Expressionism. However, Moore’s love of history and landscape lead him to study French Impressionism, French Academic painters of the nineteenth century, and American masters like Edward Hopper.
After college, Moore moved to Washington, D.C. and began showing at the Torpedo Factory in Arlington, Virginia. He moved back to Maine in the early 1980s and currently resides there with his wife in a 19th c. farmhouse overlooking Penobscot Bay.
Moore has taught at the Farnsworth Museum of Art and served as a consulting artist for Maine’s Percent For Art Program. Moore’s paintings are in corporate collections throughout the United States and in private collections local and international.
