Hennie de Korte
Born January 5, 1941, Hennie de Korte spent his early years in Australia after his family moved there from Utrecht, Holland. He first began to study painting in 1957 at the East Sydney Art School in Australia. In 1958, he returned to Holland where he studied at the Academy of Fine Art in Rotterdam. Completing four years in Rotterdam, de Korte returned to Australia to study at the Sydney Art Academy. After marrying, he and his new bride bought a sailboat and sailed around the world. Following his voyage, he began painting and exhibiting his art throughout Europe.
His inspiration comes from his fascination with the dreamy, peaceful atmosphere that marine life offers. This motif began to appear in his paintings, showing different uses of space, light, and reflection. He is known for his free, impressionistic style that allows the viewer to see the painting in their own eyes and use their imagination. During his training in Rotterdam, he was influenced by the Dutch impressionists Maris and de Zwart. He also finds inspiration from traveling with a group of fellow artists, most of them British, and paints portraits from sketches and preliminary studies.
De Korte is a member of the Art Society Gooi en Vechtstreek, as well as the E.K.C. Enschede. Among his many artistic accomplishments is the Charles Pears Memorial Award from the Royal Society of Marine Artists in London. Hennie de Korte is one of the most respected artists in the Netherlands and his work has gained recognition all around the world. His artwork is exhibited and enjoyed by collectors in the United States, Japan, Australia and Europe.
