  Lynn  Gertenbach

Lynn Gertenbach’s insatiable thirst for life is evident in her remarkable oil paintings depicting subject matters ranging from serene landscapes to strong figurative work. According to Patricia Saleh in an article for International Fine Art Collector, “To find the source of Lynn’s artistic charisma, one must enter the realm of imagination, as first and foremost she is an adventuress, inside and out.” Lynn has traveled around the world five times to paint and exhibit.

Born in Wisconsin and partially educated in Denver, Colorado, Lynn attained scholarships enabling her to graduate from the Colorado Institute of Art. She continued her studies at Layton Art Institute in Milwaukee, The Art Center in Los Angeles, California, UCLA, and with noted painters Sergei Bongart, Phillip Gilkerson, Bernard Dustan, and Arul Raj of India. Upon completing her formal education she traveled extensively in the Middle East, China, Japan, Peru and Guatamala, painting landscapes and indigenous people as she explored the various regions of each country. During her time in Mongolia and Northern China, Lynn traversed rugged terrain and slept in primitive tents in her quest to capture the natural beauty of the region. There she also had the opportunity to paint with internationally acclaimed artist, Jove Wang. In 1980, the Instituto Cultural Norte Americano sponsored a traveling exhibition of Lynn’s paintings to three cities in Peru, as well as India and Switzerland. Lynn has led painting workshops in Provence, France and Charleston, SC, and in October 2008 took a class of students to Tuscany, Italy to teach a 10-day workshop that developed from making three “instructional DVD’s” for the Lilliedahl Publication Company. Though travel remains an essential inspiration for her work, Lynn calls California home. “I’ve often found inspiring subjects within a short distance from my home. Things I pass every day…then, suddenly see at dusk in a new light. I paint the environment I love to be in. My desire is to mirror positive and gentle emotions to those who view my work.”

Lynn’s public and private commissions include: Maestro Zubin Mehta (conductor of the New York philharmonic), the Maharaja of Navanagar, Maestro Rave Shaker, Tippi Hedren, Barbara Streisand, Burt Reynolds, Huntley House Hotel in Santa Monica, California, Mrs. Vince Scully, Northrop Aircraft Murals, Hugh Brady, TRW, and Southern California Gas Company Murals.

Among her numerous awards and achievements, Lynn received the Life Achievement Award (Hall of Fame Inductee) from the Colorado Institute of Art and her work has been in group exhibitions in the Laguna Museum of Art, the Carnegie Museum, the Frederick Weisman Museum at Pepperdine University, the Pacific Asia Museum and annual shows at the Isetan Museum in Tokyo. Lynn is a Signature Member of the American Academy of Women Artists, Oil Painters of America, Plein Air Painters of America, and the California Art Club where she also serves as member on the board of advisors. Most recently Lynn was accepted into the CAC’s 98th annual Gold Medal exhibition.
