Born in Seoul, South Korea, Zin Lim received a B.F.A. in Industrial Design (Environmental) from Hong Ik University, Seoul, in 2000. That same year, Lim moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in California. He received a second B.F.A. in 2003 and a M.F.A. in 2006 of Fine Art: Figurative Painting from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.
Lim dedicated his school time to achieve solid craftsmanship in Representational oil painting. Simultaneously, he spent time studying the Non-Representational realm, because Lim believes that each of these disparate structures not only complements the other but also increases space of creative potentiality between them.
Lim’s professional career as an artist began during the last year of his graduate study in 2006, receiving some of the most prestigious national and international competition awards in his field, such as:
- Best of Show at ‘The Salon International’
- Exceptional Merit Award in ‘The Portrait Society of America’
- Award of Excellence in ‘The Oil Painters of America’
Galleries and museums nationwide represent Zin Lim’s paintings. He is currently residing in the Bay Area and teaching fine art graduate courses, Figure Drawing and Figure Painting, at Academy of Art University in San Francisco.
